Galanin (GAL) is a neuropeptide found in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. It is involved in normal growth and development of the nervous system and is critically important for the recovery of nerve function after nerve injury. In peripheral neurons, this peptide appears to be involved in influencing pain sensation after nerve injury (neuropathic pain).
